This incident follows the viral circulation of a deepfake video featuring actress Rashmika Mandanna. Expressing her dismay, the “Pushpa” star emphasized the potential misuse of technology to tarnish individuals’ reputations. In a public statement, Mandanna voiced her concerns, stating, “I feel really hurt to share this and have to talk about the deepfake video of me being spread online. Something like this is honestly extremely scary not only for me but also for each one of us who today is vulnerable to so much harm because of how technology is being misused.”

The fabricated video showcased Mandanna, clad in a black dress, entering an elevator, although the footage was of a different individual, created using the AI technology known as deepfake. The incident prompted reactions from various figures, including Amitabh Bachchan and Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar, both expressing their concern and advocating for potential legal action against such malicious use of technology.

Addressing the issue, Amitabh Bachchan acknowledged the need for legal measures, stating, “Indeed, this presents a robust basis for legal action.” Even Prime Minister Modi weighed in on the matter, highlighting the significant concern posed by deepfake technology. The incident underscores the pressing need for heightened awareness and regulatory measures to combat the misuse of artificial intelligence in creating misleading and potentially harmful content.
